BLACKENED STEEL PATINA
Blackened steel is referred to by many different names. Black iron, black patina, black oxide etc. The finish can look very different depending on the material preparation and the application process. Patina means to age and black patina acids oxidize steel, stainless, aluminum, brass, copper or almost any metal to a black state. Patination is a very organic process and the final product will always have an organic quality to it. Depending on the application process and the craftsmen applying the finish it can result in a gunmetal, or finish with varying colors or one that has a lot of grain. Contact Freehand Metalworks directly to explore all you black patina options.
BRUSHED STAINLESS STEEL
Often referred to as a #4 finish. Brushed stainless has linear lines also known as grain much like wood. The direction of the grain on each surface must be thought when choosing this finish. Brushed finishes tend to hide scratches well because the tend to blend in with the grain. Due to corner conditions not every surface can necessary be brushed.
SATIN STAINLESS STEEL
Satin Stainless is a non-directional finish applied. This finish is called a DA finish or random orbit finish named for the tools used to create it. It is a very soft finish and has no grain. Every surface of an object can receive this finish. This is a great finish for longevity. It is easy to maintain and refinish if needed.
